Family Support Specialist
Status: Exempt Full Time
Reports to: Client Services Manager
Basic Functions: ChildSafe, a leader in the field of trauma treatment and services for children and families in Bexar County, is seeking a full-time Family Support Specialist. Under the supervision of the Client Services Manager and in coordination with the Multidisciplinary Team, the Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing support services to child victims and their non-offending family members.
Primary duties: include acting as an advocate for child victims and their non-offending family members by providing support and follow up services; providing case management services to meet the needs of families which include but are not limited to: Victim’s Rights and Compensation explanation and assistance, referrals for mental health services, medical evaluations, and other social services such as TANF, Medicaid, Texas Workforce Commission, and WIC; with child protection team, identify service gaps for each client child and family. Will also serve as a back-up Forensic Interviewer. Forensic interview training will be provided by the agency.
Education/Skills/Training Requirements: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required; a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology or a related field; clear criminal history background check and TDFPS abuse registry check; knowledge of community resources; experience with diverse cultures, languages, and situations; experience working with children and families in crisis; knowledge of and experience in working with child abuse issues; and, training in crisis management preferred.
