Become and Ambassador

Responsibilities: ChildSafe Ambassadors are volunteers who represent the agency in the community by giving basic and brief presentations to local businesses and organizations. Volunteers will receive specific training on the agency and its services, along with general information on child sexual abuse. Ambassadors should also be available for community/health fairs, agency tours, and/or conference exhibits.

Necessary Skills: Clear verbal communication skills, public speaking experience to groups of varied sizes, ability to modify standard agency pieces to fit varied presentation venues, ability to read audience context and attempt to make a connection with the audience.

Qualifications: Ambassadors should be at least 21 years of age, interview, give consent to a criminal background check, and provide three references. Preference will be given to those volunteers able to provide evidence of past presentation ability. Criminal background checks will be repeated annually.

Time Commitment: Ambassadors should plan on one commitment quarterly. Ambassadors will be assigned to presentations, community/health fairs, conference exhibits, and agency tours as requests are made. Ambassadors are encouraged to solicit presentation venues and fairs.

Volunteer Benefits: Ambassadors will have the opportunity to empower others, educate the community, increase awareness about abuse, ChildSafe and its services, learn new skills, gain work experience, meet new people, and do satisfying work. In addition, volunteers are given the opportunity to attend ChildSafe sponsored trainings, including the annual Child Abuse Conference, at no charge to them if fees apply (CEU's for SW's, LPC's, and LMFT's will also be awarded).

Training: Ambassadors are required to attend and participate in a four-hour volunteer orientation. Topics include an introduction to the agency, child sexual abuse, multidisciplinary team dynamics, maintaining confidentiality, and ambassador responsibilities and resources. Ambassadors are encouraged to attend on-going trainings on sexual abuse and related topics for professional development. Before assignments are given, ChildSafe requires that all Ambassadors shadow agency staff on a least one tour and presentation. Ambassadors must be observed once before doing presentations on their own. Ambassadors are required to complete 6 continuing education hours annually to remain active as a volunteer.

Supervision: Lea Ann Collisson, Volunteer Coordinator, and Patricia Kittle, Training Coordinator will provide ongoing supervision.

Paperwork: Ambassadors must document their presentations as well as any new contacts made. This information will be routinely returned to Lea Ann Collisson at the end of each month.
