08/15/2009 Carousel Court Shops pull together to support ChildSafe
Saturday, August 15th, 2009
10:00am - 4:00pm
Carousel Court
1848 Nacogdoches Road
It's that time of the year when you're gearing up for BACK-2-SCHOOL. There's a million and one things on your checklist to accomplish before the big day, and the shops at Carousel Court are here to help!
They have pretty big hearts over there and are engaged in their community, so while they are helping you meet your back to school needs they are helping out those less fortunate too. Come Shop-4-A-Cause at the Carousel Court on Saturday, August 15th and help make a difference in your community.
For many of our families the first day of school will be full of excitement but short on supplies. 67% of the families receiving services at ChildSafe live on an annual income of $15,000 or less. These children are living in poverty and will start school without the basic tools that are essential to their success without our help.
Click here for more details about this event.
ChildSafe will appear on Great Day SA on Thursday morning, August 6th to talk about this wonderful event. Check it out!

On Friday, August 7th, you'll catch a group of volunteers out at the Walmart at 281N and 1604 soliciting school supply donations to support the Stuff the Bus effort by Communities in Schools. This year, ChildSafe was selected to benefit from this city-wide collection. We'll receive school supplies for 175 children! Teaming up with FirstMark Credit Union, ChildSafe and FirstMark employees will man the Walmart creating a spirit of joy while collecting supplies for Stuff the Bus. There will be radio stations out there along with a multitude of media at OUR WALMART all day long. We might also get a guest appearance by an official too!
Stop by and say hello and drop of some school supplies to benefit children all over the city of San Antonio.

07/31/2009 Thanks to Standard Aero, 120 ChildSafe children receive backpacks and school supplies!
On Thursday, July 9th a group of 5 representatives from Standard Aero arrived on the door steps of ChildSafe bearing armfuls of backpacks and school supplies for children in pre-k through 12th grade as they have each year for the past 6 years. There were school supplies galore in addition to a myriad of mesh, clear and novelty backpacks that covered the conference room from floor to ceiling. Everyone was delighted by their arrival.
For the past few months, the ChildSafe team has inquired of each family about their need for back to school supplies and extended an invitation to the community for their support. With over 300 requests, Standard Aero came in as a hero! They were able to provide backpacks and school supplies for over 120 children at an estimated value of $4,005! Wow-wee.
On July 31st, families started arriving one by one to a wonderland of fun at ChildSafe. As they walked in the front doors, they were greeted by a magician performing illusions for their amusement. The line was out the door as families came to pick up their much anticipated school supplies and backpacks! Refreshments were served and children were happy walking away with all the materials they needed to start the school year off right.
A special thank you goes out to Standard Aero, Blake's Magic, Family Service Association Teens and ChildSafe volunteers Valerie and Yolanda for making this day possible.
07/25/2009 Performing Arts Group brings child sexual abuse topic to life in a dialogue after show
On Saturday, July 25th ChildSafe participated in a panel discussion following a performance of the acclaimed play, Blackbird, by Scottish playwright, David Harrower. Blackbird explored the issue of child sexual abuse and what happens when a victim, now a young woman, tracks down and confronts her abuser. The play raised many questions; Is the case ever “closed”? How will the victim cope with the damage? How will the perpetrator rebuild a life after punishment?
AtticRep, in residence at Trinity University, hosted a TalkBack Forum after the performance in which members of the audience were able to ask questions of the panel which included ChildSafe staff, Vickie Ernst, Chief Operating Officer, Necia Harp, Therapist, Annette Santos, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner; community experts, Mark Harris, a psychotherapist, Clinical Social Worker and a Sex Offender Treatment Provider, and Jane Schafer, Coordinator for the Crisis Response Team for SAPD as well as the actors and director from the play.
The discussion was a wonderful opportunity to educate the community about child sexual abuse as well as to explore the difficult issues raised in the play. The audience members should be commended for being willing to discuss a very difficult topic and ChildSafe is very appreciative of the opportunity to participate in such a terrific community event.

10/15/2008 - The AT&T Call Center chose ChildSafe to be its beneficiary of the employee United Way charitable giving campaign this year. ChildSafe CEO Lynda Alston had mentioned during her presentation to the AT&T group that ChildSafe was also in need of Teddy Bears for the kids. So, as great corporate citizens do, AT&T went beyond the call and brought boxes full of toys and teddy bears along with a check for more than $850. Many thanks to the kind folks at the AT&T Call Center.
