Current Opening for Data Analyst

Status: Full-time Exempt
Reports to: Chief Program Officer

Mission: Established in 1992, ChildSafe is a nonprofit organization created to combat child abuse in our community. Serving as Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), we provide a continuum of care – including crisis management, case management, clinical therapy, and victim services – to child abuse survivors and their non-offending family members.  In 2012, ChildSafe expanded its services to reach all child victims of abuse and neglect.

Basic Functions: Serves as the Database Administrator and expert for the agency. Data Analyst is responsible for creating all reports, running monthly reports, and identifying trends. Serves as the primary liaison for database vendor for problem resolution, provides staff training and creates procedural manuals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Designs, develops, maintains, and manages all reports for grants, program outcomes, and client needs.
  • Determines report requirements by discussing needs with end users, designing the report formats, and creating the reports.
  • Provides monthly program statistics reports and ensures that reports are accurate and produced on time.
  • Develops and implements assessment tools for reporting areas to improve data quality.
  • Generates and utilizes sophisticated excel-based worksheet functions and displays data using charts and query layered data plots.
  • Executes Excel’s built-in VBA functions appropriately in Excel’s programming environment that may include string/text functions, logical functions, or other functions.
  • Identifies data discrepancies that might relate to the function of the reporting software and escalates these issues as needed.
  • Sets up and orients new staff users on the software and creates training manuals.
  • Provides one on one training and individual support for user software, as needed.
  • Collaborates with other departments and teams to report on performance outcomes and trends.
  • Attends on-going training in field subject matter.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, information management, statistics and one (1) year of experience as a data analyst.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit and/or social service organization preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Experience in the management and administration of a client database; Apricot experience preferred.
  • Proficient in building ad hoc reports using Microsoft Office tools such as Live Office and Visual Basic.
  • Preferred visualization software experience (Tableau, PowerBI, Python libraries).
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to present information and respond to questions from executive and leadership team.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts commonly required in business.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to solve problems, design database systems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Skilled in assessing client’s needs, designing report formats, and creating reports.
  • Must be able to communicate technical concepts in layman’s terms.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • General office environment
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Needs to move about the office to access cabinets, files, office machinery including computers, printers
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (EG: copiers and printers)
  • Will seldom ascend/descend ladder to retrieve client files
  • Occasionally lifts supplies and support materials weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Must be able to communicate well with staff/clients and supportive family members

Job requires 40 hours weekly. Afterhours and weekends for agency-related activities may be required.
