Current Opening for MEP Response Specialist

Status: Part Time
Reports to: Director of Client Services

Mission: Established in 1992, ChildSafe is a nonprofit organization created to combat child abuse in our community. Serving as Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), we provide a continuum of care – including crisis management, case management, clinical therapy, and victim services – to child abuse survivors and their non-offending family members. In 2012, ChildSafe expanded its services to reach all child victims of abuse and neglect.

Skills Needed:  As a trauma informed agency, success in this position requires a focus on establishing a core service relationship based on true collaboration with the MDT; requires a high degree of organization and the ability to multi-task in a high energy environment. Must be comfortable using a computer and entering data; have excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.

Essential Job Functions:  Under the supervision of the Director of Client Services, and in coordination with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), the Multidisciplinary Enhancement Program (MEP) Response Specialist is responsible for the review of DFPS Statewide Intakes to screen for cases that meet the agreed MDT criteria for ChildSafe services and coordinate an MDT response to ensure children and families are receiving necessary services. This position is responsible for the initiation of an MDT collaborative response and promote this by exploring case issues to gain thorough understanding. Other duties include:

  • Conduct a preliminary review of Statewide Intakes on a daily basis (received via agency software database).
  • Determine Statewide Intakes (SWIs) that clearly align with CAC case criteria (as per MDT Working Protocols) to receive MDT coordination services.
  • Initiate process for more in-depth review of reports/notifications that may align with CAC case criteria (as per MDT Working Protocols) but in need of further assessment to determine next steps.
  • Explore case dynamics to promote understanding and ensure a collaborative response.
  • Aid communication that will ensure that proper reports are made to law enforcement when DFPS determines that they do not have jurisdiction.
  • Assess whether ChildSafe services have been initiated and/or coordinated.
  • Make contact with appropriate MDT partners to facilitate initiation of joint investigation and, as needed coordinate an MDT response to ensure children and families are receiving unduplicated necessary agency services.
  • Schedule forensic interviews by coordinating schedules with CAC FI and FSS, CPS and LE.
  • Ensure reports/records generated from Statewide Intakes or agency database are retained, protected and or destroyed so as to ensure confidentiality.
  • Coordinate information gathering, including history with MDT partners, assessments and forensic interview(s) to avoid duplication and ensure effective information sharing among MDT members.
  • Review the MDT response email box for emails from DFPS requesting an MDT response to include follow up to coordinate the MDT response in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the MDT partner “hotline” is attended to coordinate the MDT response in a timely manner.
  • Case Tracking information data entry.
  • Up to date and current on all employee trainings.
  • All other responsibilities and duties as from time to time designated by the Agency or added to the scope of responsibility for this position by immediate supervisors, MEP Response Manager or Director of Client Services.

Education/Skills/Training Requirements:

  • Possesses a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, or a related field. Four years of similar work experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Effective scheduling coordination among multiple parties and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of CPS and Law Enforcement designations, definitions and acronyms.
  • Interacts with other professionals and co-workers in a spirit of cooperation and mutual commitment to the goals of delivering the best possible services to the victims of child abuse.
  • Advanced training in crisis management preferred.
  • Experience with diverse cultures, languages, and situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with child abuse issues.
  • Ability to organize a variety of tasks and deal with a variety of people.
  • Excellent telephone and computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
  • Effectively utilize critical thinking skills.
  • Possess proficient computer skills. Knowledge of Social Solutions “Apricot 360” a plus.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities highly desirable.
  • Must have a telephone, reliable transportation, auto liability insurance and possess a current Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and CPS registry check.

Performance Standards:

  • Reviewing and pursuing a minimum of 20% of monthly Statewide Intakes (SWIs) in ChildSafe software database.
  • A minimum of 90% on Quality Assurance (QA) compliance.
  • 90% of SWIs reviewed are current and reviewed within 24-48 hours of database integration.
  • Case documentation is completed within 24-48 hrs. of service provided.
  • Up to date and current on all employee trainings.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • General office environment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Needs to move about the office to access cabinets, files, office machinery including computers, copiers and printers.
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (EG: copiers and printers).
  • Occasionally lifts supplies, food, and clothing weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate well with MDT partners and colleagues.

Hours/Shifts:

Part-time position working 25 hours. Shifts will be established within the following timeframes:

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Salary: $20/hour
