Our History- Childsafe timeline
1988 University Health Science Center pediatricians were added to the program. Dr. Nancy Kellogg and Dr. Juan Parra began to work with abused children and a multidisciplinary task force formed to investigate care for the community’s abused children.
1992 Alamo Children’s Advocacy Center and the Multi-Disciplinary Team were formally incorporated. The Alamo Children’s Advocacy Center—today known as ChildSafe—received agency status from the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
1994 Capital campaign was begun to create a permanent home
1996 Baptist Children’s Home Ministries deeds 7.9 acres for a new facility and construction begins
1997 Construction completed and services begin from the new facility on U.S. Highway 90 West
1998 CARE Program (Child Abuse Resource Enhancement) is founded to provide additional services to sexually abused children and their supportive family members
2003 Therapy and education departments move into rented facility on Baptist Children’s Home Ministries; therapy and healing garden is constructed
2004 Child Welfare Strategic Alliance formed (now called the MDT) with 24 participating agencies
2007 Name changes from Alamo Children’s Advocacy Center to ChildSafe in October

2009 Adventure therapy program launched
2011 New logo is adopted in May

The Children’s Advocacy Center movement began in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1985. Today Huntsville is the home of the National Children’s Advocacy Center. The NCAC provides prevention, intervention, and therapy in their community, and functions as an advisory organization that provides education, training, and professional services to children’s advocacy centers throughout the country.

The Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas, Inc.—CACTX is the statewide membership association, representing all local children's advocacy centers (CACs) in the Lone Star State. Founded in 1994 with a membership of 13 local centers, today the CACTX membership roster includes 64 developing and established centers.

The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is synonymous with caring and helping children, families, and individuals. United Way is the largest private health and human service organization in Bexar County, supporting 135 programs at 64 agencies, including ChildSafe.
