Why Blue?

Blue represents the bruises hidden beneath the surface, the silent pain that too many children endure alone.

Since 1989, blue has been the official color of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, symbolizing the courage it takes to break the silence and the hope for healing that follows. The blue ribbon serves as a visible reminder that child abuse thrives in secrecy, and by wearing blue, we shine a light on this critical issue.

Going Blue for ChildSafe ChildSafe’s “Go Blue for ChildSafe” campaign combined with Cardboard Kids harnesses these powerful symbols to unite our community in action. When businesses illuminate their buildings in blue, individuals wear blue ribbons or clothing, and organizations share blue-themed content on social media, we create a wave of awareness that cannot be ignored. Together, we’re transforming blue from a color of pain into a beacon of protection, proving that Bexar County stands united in safeguarding every child’s right to a safe and nurturing childhood.
